The ION─001 is a fan-less ion generator from DS Audio, the company more widely known for their optical cartridges. When placed properly, the device is supposed to eliminate most of the static electricity on the record during playback. The resulting sonic improvements are immediate, obvious and quite astounding in some cases. It’s like a semi-transparent veil lifted from the sonic picture, then every object snapping into focus. One also notices better flow and a greater sense of ease in the overall presentation, an expanded sound stage in all dimensions, and richer harmonics of each musical entity as well as its ambient details. The ION-001 is not inexpensive, yet its ability to extend the performance boundary of vinyl playback is well worth the price. Strongly recommended.
